EPL Round 5

The English Premier league returns from international break with every club trying to get back in the swing of the season.  None other than James Kempton is back to cover every single fixture with his own unique gambling spin.  Interested in information on lower division leagues in England?  James’ stat packs and gold rush column make for a great handicapping tool.

Everton v Chelsea
Chelsea -0.5 and 2.5 goals
Chelsea have won five of the last six meetings of the sides but given current form I cannot back them here. The atmosphere should be red hot given the John Stones transfer saga so there could be plenty of cards on display here. I lean towards the over 2.5 goals here but with no real conviction.

Arsenal v Stoke City
Arsenal -1.5 and 2.75 goals
Arsenal have outscored the Potters 17-3 over the seven EPL meetings at the Emirates but this Stoke side is a different animal compared to the blood and thunder teams of Stoke’s early days. I sense there is a bit of value on the away dog as Hughes will set his side up well for this trip given the extra week of planning he has had.

Crystal Palace v Manchester City
Man City -0.75 and 2.75 goals
Palace won this fixture 2-1 last season and hot off of their win at Stamford Bridge they will be very confident going into this game. With so many players jetting off to all parts of the world on international duty it will be interesting to see how City plays here. No real feel for the match market from me but even with the line at 2.75 I lean heavily to the overs.

Norwich City v Bournemouth
Norwich City -0.25 and 2.5 goals
This is a game that if played later in the season could be a tight nervous game but I sense at this stage of the season it’s more likely to be an open and entertaining match. In view of that I lean towards the over 2.5 goals.

Watford v Swansea City
Pk and 2.25 goals
Watford are a side that will finish in the bottom third of the table come the end of the season. Swansea are a total of 18-8-6 against bottom third sides since August 2013. Just 31 total goals have gone in over Swansea’s 16 away games in this spot suggests the Swans on the Pk line and unders are the sides to take.

West Bromwich Albion v Southampton
Southampton -0.25 and 2.25 goals
There have been just three total goals in the four meetings of the sides in the EPL over the past two seasons. I love Albion on this line here as I can’t take Southampton laying anything away from home until I see them win a game on the road this season.

Manchester United v Liverpool
United -0.5 and 2.25 goals
The over 2.5 goals has gone 4-0 in the last four meetings of the teams. These are two different teams to those of the past but this overs goal line is tempting. Surely this will revert to the usual blood and thunder type derby game? United look the side to be on in the match market but I’d stick with a bit of the overs.

Sunderland v Tottenham Hotspur
Tottenham -0.5 and 2.5 goals
The last five total meetings of the sides has gone over 2.5 goals and Spurs have scored two goals in each of their last three trips to the Stadium of Light. Those trends point to the away team and the over. However, I am not sure I can trust this Spurs side to take all three points so will just take a slice of the overs.

Leicester City v Aston Villa
Leicester City -0.5 and 2.5 goals
This is a rivalry that should not be underestimated within the locality as they hate each other! I am happy to take the away team plus half a goal here as despite their lofty league position I cannot trust City here.

West Ham United v Newcastle United
West Ham -0.25 and 2.5 goals
Under 2.5 goals has gone 5-1 over the last six meetings and it was two home wins to nil when the sides met last term. Both sides are fairly middle of the road clubs who do not travel overly well. West Ham have burnt bettors already this season so even on this line stay away. Give me the under 2.5 goals as my favoured bet here.
